Thursday, February 13, 2014: Looks like Canonical’s bid to unite the code base for all of their operating systems for desktop, mobile, TV, and server before Microsoft manages to converge Windows on mobile and PC will finally be upon us pretty soon.
In what clearly indicates that its developers are pretty close to achieving complete convergence, Ubuntu’s community manager, Jono Bacon, recently demoed how the full convergence of an application, at code level, really looks like on Ubuntu. He showed off the demo video on a Reddit app called Karma Machine.
What it means in principle is that developers writing apps with the Ubuntu SDK could very soon run the products on PC, phone, and tablet, without modifying the code. Meanwhile, the actual convergence will happen between the releases of Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 15.04.
