Two-Wheelers Can Carry Goods With Cargo Boxes From April 2016

Karnataka Avenger Ambulances Launch

The road transport ministry will now allow two-wheelers to carry goods with light weight cargo boxes starting April 2016.

Two-Wheeler Cargo

There will be new regulations for cargo boxes

Starting April 2016, two-wheelers can fit cargo boxes on their vehicles to carry stuff such as immediate medical aid, commercial goods, etc. The road transport ministry has come up with certain specifications under which light-weight cargo boxes can be fitted onto the two-wheeler. The goods carrying vehicles will have to be 550 mm long while the width allowed is 510 mm and the weight limit of each box is 30 kgs.

Such two-wheeler vehicles fitted with cargo boxes won’t be allowed to carry pillion riders along. Currently there are no proper rules and regulations for such two-wheelers but from next year onwards, the transport ministry will set certain guidelines and specifications to make a new segment of goods carrying vehicles. There are many ways in which these cargo two-wheelers can be used for better productivity.

In such traffic conditions of metro cities using four-wheelers to carry small goods is very inefficient. Currently we only see online retailers and food chains delivering their products on two-wheelers. Once the new specifications of cargo boxes come out, these services will also get more efficient. Two-wheeler manufacturers might also come up with options for customers to provide such light-weight cargo boxes as an option.

The ministry is also planning to make a new segment under this category called two-wheeler ambulance. The officials were deciding to implement this new category in 2013 but now the ministry will fix the standards to come out with a proper two-wheeler ambulance. This service will be useful under emergency medical conditions in congested and crowded zones where conventional ambulance can’t reach. These two-wheeler ambulances provide immediate medical aid but don’t transport patients.

Fiat Qubo & Doblo MPVs Spotted Testing In India, No Launch Plans

Fiat Doblo Spy Shot

The Fiat Qubo and Doblo are MPVs sold in Europe and the automaker has no plans of introducing the same in the country any time soon.

Fiat Doblo Spy Shot

The Qubo & Doblo are possibly here for global benchmarking exercise

The Fiat Doblo and Qubo are MPVs sold in Europe that were recently caught on test in Maharashtra. The Pune registered models were running on permanent plates and the Italian automaker has no plans of introducing the models any time in India. However, it is not clear as to what was Fiat testing on the models. The possibilities range from new components, mechanicals, powertrain or possibly they could be here for global benchmarking purposes.

Starting with the Fiat Qubo, the MPV is a sub 4-metre model measuring 3.96-metres in length with boxy dimensions, sliding rear door and a rather different front fascia. Practicality happens to be the Qubo’s forte with 16 seat configurations, 2500-litre boot capacity and three different variants. Engine options on the MPV include a 1.4-litre FIRE petrol as well as the tried and tested 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel with power output ranging from 80-95 HP.

Coming to the Fiat Doblo, the fairly larger MPV can seat up to seven and gets flexible seating options along with a boot capacity of a healthy 3200-litres. Power on the Doblo comes from three engine options including a 1.4-litre petrol as well as the 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre MultiJet diesel mills with power ranging from 95-120 HP. Both the Qubo and Doblo come with only a manual transmission as standard.

The MPVs also come loaded with a ton of features including a start-stop system, Bluetooth connectivity and rear parking sensors among other bits. Safety features include ABS, ESP, TPMS, front and side airbags and much more. The Doblo also gets Hill Holder as optional. Both the models are Euro 6 compliant as well. At present, Fiat India’s concentration is on strengthening its existing products while the company’s next major launch will be the long awaited Jeep brand scheduled for launch at the 2016 Auto Expo.

40% Bonus on Purchasing Avios in the next 3 days

Just keeping all informed in case they haven’t received the email:

“You already know how rewarding Avios can be. So, you’ll be pleased to hear that if your current Avios balance doesn’t quite stretch to your next reward flight or upgrade, you can enjoy a 40% bonus when you purchase at least 10,000 Avios from 2 – 4 December 2015, helping you to get away again sooner.

You are able to purchase up to 35,000 Avios by the end of the year, so don’t miss out – this flash sale lasts three days only.”

This means you can purchase 49,000 avios for £575, which is a good price if you need to make up a shortfall for a big purchase, though not necessarily cheap enough to make it worth buying them for the sake of it.

If cash fares are very high on a european route, you could purchase 26,600 avios for £319, which would make 3 RFS peak returns <£140 in total (including the fees), which is often cheaper than cash on popular summer routes on non-HBO fares (as RFS provides a baggage allowance).

Is Mainz still a great choice given the weather/season?

On the mechanical front, the S101 will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, diesel engine.
